“Our team has had the monumental task of performing spatial alignment of our address points and road centre lines across our District. It led to inconsistencies in reporting, and we needed data to help us track the ever-changing environment.”

Sharon Nichol Jost, ENP, Director of Data Integrity, Bexar Metro

“The NextGen9-1-1 experience is really driven by the vendor you choose. With more frequent flights, we can keep our database up to date and more reliable, helping make this transition smoother. Nearmap has been paramount for us.”

Corey Brandenburg, ENP, GISP, Manager of Geospatial Operations, Bexar Metro

Precision in every dispatch

Proactive change management

The challenge

The cost of slow, inaccurate data

After upgrading to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1), Bexar Metro faced a critical challenge: ensuring its data was accurate, current and ready to guide first responders in real time.
Key issues:
  • Lack of recent and relevant data: Bexar Metro needs recent, relevant and accurate information for its emergency response system. Multi-year capture was needed to keep pace with changes across the counties.
  • Slow data collection: Other property intelligence providers couldn’t deliver data quickly enough for real-time response.
  • Integration issues: Bexar Metro needed to integrate into a custom platform designed to store and display data for emergency call takers and dispatchers.
Dispatchers needed to give responders clarity before they arrived on site. Bexar Metro required a single solution to capture high-quality location data across all three counties.

The solution

All-seeing property intelligence

Bexar Metro uses Nearmap imagery and building footprints to improve the visual information given to dispatchers during emergency calls. Incorporating it into their custom, web-based GCMA*, the data helps dispatchers give first responders clear situational context before they arrive.
Data in action:
  • Nearmap AI is used for detailed outlines of building footprints and aerial content, so first responders can access essential information about entry points, building characteristics, and more.
  • The Nearmap Widget App embeds call data with property intelligence, giving dispatchers a remote view of the emergency location.
  • Nearmap 3D and oblique imagery are used to obtain Z-axis information, critical when calculating the height of structures – especially multi-level buildings – during emergencies.

“The exceptional imagery, the cost factors, and the ability to have the imagery turned around in 45 business days were leading indicators of my decision to select Nearmap.”

The impact

Clarity in critical moments

Improving the effectiveness of emergency response systems to help save lives. Bexar Metro’s first responders are now able to use location data and detailed imagery to better prepare for real-time emergencies and learn from historical referencing projects.
Results:
  • Improved location accuracy or emergency responders being dispatched.
  • Share the GCMA technology with a growing user base of 600+ call-takers across the District.
  • Observe and manage changes across the District, beyond emergency response situations.
Integrating Nearmap’s property intelligence into Bexar Metro’s existing systems has ensured fast, data-driven emergency responses. And enhanced safety measures for areas such as schools and government buildings. Dispatch teams now have access to critical data via the GCMA, empowering them to make effective decisions in moments when every second counts.

“Deliverables every 6 months are key to help us track changes and make decisions. One of my favourite days was when I showed my Executive Director how Nearmap could identify paved road centre lines, allowing us to adjust our proposed road centre lines on a roadway.”

Sharon Nichol Jost, ENP, Director of Data Integrity, Bexar Metro

“Accuracy, cost, and ease of licensing were the biggest factors into our decision to choose Nearmap.”

Corey Brandenburg, ENP, GISP, Manager of Geospatial Operations, Bexar Metro
